'Art in the 80's'
Brian Powell and Geoff Driver
The final art exhibition of 2012 at High High Head Gallery and Tea Room at Ivegill commences on Thursday 18 October and continues until 22 December.
Amongst the work of the artists on show, visitors to the Gallery will find paintings by two local artists Brian Powell and Geoff Driver under the title of “Art in the 80’s” and is in celebration of their 80th birthdays which have taken place during 2012.
Their work on show in watercolour, acrylic and oils is the culmination of a lifetime in art and travel.
Brian Powell captures the seasons with his images of distant mountains ranged against brilliant skies and are bound to stir memories of any viewers who have trodden the lonely fells or looked out over rocky shorelines at sunset or dawn with only the cry of the gulls for company.
His sometimes seemingly simple studies, capturing a moment in time, are in fact complex statements, seen and recorded by the eyes and hands of a very experienced artist and impossible to copy!
Both octogenarians, Brian and Geoff have over the years visited many distant countries and amongst the paintings on show viewers will see landscapes which are definitely not local fells. Landscapes of Tasmania and New Zealand are included amongst their work on show.
Some of Geoff Driver’s larger paintings include the towering forested slopes and deep fiords of New Zealand’s South Island, a magical island to which he has paid several long visits.
Despite turning a page of life’s calendar, Brian and Geoff still continue to paint with enjoyment and hope that viewers will enjoy their 80th Birthday Exhibition.
