'A Mixed Response'

Sue Moffitt

If a man does not live in harmony with the land and the natural rhythms of our World, we will not endure

Taken from: The pleasures of eating by Wendell Berry

I am passionate about art and its potential to express emotion, feelings or words.

It is this channel that allows me to address issues that impact everyone's daily life. I am a farmer's daughter, brought up on a large dairy farm, and have lived in the country all my life. I am “at home” in the countryside and therefore my art reflects this rural ethos. My concerns involve the landscape, the future of farming, and the sustaining of food production in this country.

These cow “portraits” came about because I helped on the family farm with the milking; their individuality was something that I grew to love about them.

Sue was born near Corbridge, Northumberland and grew up on a dairy farm. Her family have been farming for generations, originating from Hunday Farm, near Workington , Cumbria . Sue owns and runs fifiefofum, a rural art gallery and centre, on the family farm in Northumberland. Her work has been shown in many venues throughout the North East, which have created a demand for her unique cow portraits. Sue's work has covered installation and video, but it is paint that draws her most
